Business Services - 10 Tips for creating and delivering a winning presentation.
1) Know the topic : Understand the information that you are going to present. Take time in selecting the most important things you want the audience to understand. Use a maximum of three to four concepts or points that you want to leave the audience with.
2) Know the audience: The main point of the presentation is to make the audience think of a few important points you want to say to stick in their mind. Think about what the audience would want to listen. If you have the opportunity call a few people in the audience and ask.
3) Create Presentation : Start with an agenda slide, to set the stage. Then go over the remaining presentation. Create a summary at the end to summarize your presentation. Use bullets to create your points. Do not write sentences as the audience will start reading them and will lose what you have to say.
4) C ontent : Some people understand words better and some understand pictures better. Use a mixture of both these in the presentation for the best effect. Use quotes or humor to drive your important points. Remember the key is to get the mindshare of the audience so that when they leave the presentation they think of the few important points that you have mentioned.
5) Avoid these : Use the minimal amount of transition effect. This distracts the user. Also use sound or movie clips only if you have to and if it is necessary to drive your point home.
6) How to deliver : Since your presentation has bulleted points, you will have to elaborate on the points that you have written. Do not read the slide as it is written. Try to involve the audience by asking questions during the presentation. Distribute printouts of the presentation so that the audience has something to take along with them. Practice the presentation several times before presenting. This is the key for any good presenter.
7) Presentation posture : Use a remote control and stand in front of the podium if you can so that the audience can see you from head to toe. Minimize repetitive motions such as waving hands, nodding head while talking, sipping water profusely. Avoid keys that rattle when you walk on the podium. Stand straight and look at the entire audience, try to fix your gaze to a few people in the audience for 2 or 3 seconds.
8) Select appropriate equipment : Select the appropriate computer (desktop, laptop), projector. Do not use a laser light as it is hard to see in larger rooms. Lower the lighting the presenting room so that the audience can see the presentation. Check the microphone before the presentation starts.
9) Back up plan : Take your presentation in a CD or disk, just in case the PC that you are using does not connect to the net or you need to borrow another computer to do the presentation.
10) End of presentation : Drive home the 3-4 important points that you wanted the audience to remember. Ask questions.
With these tips in mind we are sure that you will do a fantastic job at your next presentation. Good Luck.
